Success! IdeaNova just recently completed its first set of tests of media content edge caching using the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA) Open Caching specification. We performed the first successful integration of Open Caching with the upstream content delivery network (uCDN) provided by Broadpeak.tv. This is the first step in getting our new product—Inplay Edge—rolled out to the aviation industry at year’s end.

The primary challenge the testbed solves is providing a way to demonstrate interoperability, based on Open Caching APIs, between different caching systems hosted by different companies within the streaming video ecosystem: content providers, CDNs, and Network Operators (ISPs).

Our Testbed Set-up

We enhanced Open Caching tested in partnership with Western Digital. Broadpeak provided their upstream CDN functionality to test IdeaNova’s implementation of the Open Caching downstream CDM. We successfully tested Open Caching URL redirect (version 1.0 and 1.1 as specified by SVTA) and JWT token authentication. This, together with our own enhancements that allow streaming of DRM encrypted content using component-based deployment using Inplay Player allows us to continue advancing Open Caching concepts for our existing customers and new prospects.
