Coaching Scope of Practice Overview

I have been trained to work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to support their health and wellbeing.

I am an expert on behavior change and possess the skills required to create a safe place for caregivers to learn coping skills to maintain their own health and wellbeing so that they can continue their loving care to others. My coaching process empowers caregivers to draw on internal strengths, develop self-knowledge, and embrace strategies for making lifestyle changes necessary for optimum results. In this capacity, I do not prescribe, diagnose, treat, or interpret results; rather I guide, educate, and support others in their transformations.

Caregiving Readiness: Transforming Chaos into Opportunity

Adversity is part of life. We get to choose how we perceive it. We can allow the resulting chaos to destroy our confidence and our understanding of who we are as a person, or we can prepare/plan what our reaction might be in such a situation. Whether it’s a parent experiencing a major event with a child, siblings experiencing a major health event with an elderly parent. receiving notice of a sell-out of your apartment building leaving you with no place to live, or being chastised by a supervisor/major client, adversity is hard. That is, unless we change our perspective from fear and chaos to one that sees the opportunity in whatever the unforeseen event may be. Negotiating: What are desired outcomes?

It can be very complex when dealing with other humans. There are 5 negotiating styles that might be used in different circumstances, or even in the same conversation as a progressive toolset if one or more of the five seems inappropriate or falls on deaf ears. The important thing to remember is that if you don’t negotiate in a conflict, others involved will pick up on this and engage in getting the decision slanted to their desired result. I’ll discuss the impact of negotiating on your peace and your loved one’s wellbeing.

Decision-making: Reducing problems to 3 decision types

Deciding to be a caregiver, whether willingly or not, is just the beginning of your journey and additional decisions you may have to make, especially as a POA. For example, there could be emotional encounters with other family members. If so, try to figure out what’s really behind the behavior. You have some decisions to make, based on your wellbeing and that of your loved one. When being verbally attacked, it’s all too easy to go on the defensive. This is where pre-meeting mindset preparation is crucial for any caregiver to maintain their inner peace and reduce the impact of stress on their body. A person’s outward signs of well-being are connected to their inner well-being. I’ll discuss a few ways to accomplish this “outward-inward” well-being state that I like to use to listen/respond without internalizing negativity .
